How the daily news briefing works

Opportunity Dispatch started with a problem its founder had managing his own portfolio. A dozen companies, each one publishing filings, releases and news on its own schedule, and no simple way to know, at the end of a day, what had actually happened across all of them. Earnings arrive four times a year. The rest of the story happens in the ninety days in between: a product launch, a partnership, an executive purchasing shares, a debt raise. Most investors hear about it late, or not at all.

The information is public. It is dated, sourced and free. What nobody has is the hours to read all of it, every day, for every company they follow. The daily news briefing exists to do that reading for you.

Who it's for

If you invest through an index fund or an ETF, this isn't for you. The daily news briefing is for investors who care about the specific companies they follow and want to track their progress as it happens, not just when results come out. Staying engaged with a business means you understand it better, and investors who understand a business make sharper decisions.

How it's produced

Every trading day, for each company you follow, we read three kinds of source: every filing the company makes with the SEC, every press release the company itself publishes, and the news articles written about it. Filings and company releases are always reported, briefly when they are routine. News is read with judgment: an article that only repeats what the company has already said, or that is about share prices and analyst opinions rather than the business, is left out. When a company publishes a release, you get the release itself, not a finance site's retelling of it.

Read each trading day

  • SEC filings
  • Company releases
  • News articles

By 7:00 PM Eastern you receive the briefing by email, with a PDF attached. The cover lists the day's most important items across your companies. Each company with news then gets its own page: the day's news first, written as a short account of what happened and what it means for the business, and after it the company card, a half page that stays with the company from day to day: what the business does, where it stands, its current-year guidance for revenue, operating margin, free cash flow and earnings per share, what is coming up, and the questions still open. Companies with nothing material that day are listed as quiet.

The briefing is written by AI, in a house voice with firm rules. Every item in the day's news links to the filing, release or article it came from, so you can check it yourself, and each guidance figure is labelled by where it comes from: an SEC filing, a company statement, or a third party. The writing explains what the day's facts mean for the company in the context of what it has said and done before. It does not give advice, ratings or price targets, and it does not comment on the share price.
